White Wolf Cafe located in Ivanhoe Village, is a tried-and-true, reliable, go-to place for a good meal and an even greater atmosphere. One of the original places left in this quickly-growing, ever-changing Central Florida neighborhood, White Wolf has been written about countless times and even visited by well-known celebrities.
First off, a little about the parking: It can be a little tricky. There’s street parking all along in front of the restaurant, if you’re lucky. There’s also a dedicated parking lot right across the street from Washburn Imports, which is about a block or so away. But once you’ve secured a spot you’re on your way to the good stuff!
Before we even get to the food we must address the eclectic interior:
“White Wolf Cafe & Bar is an award-winning, gourmet bistro serving breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. The restaurant started as a dream in August of 1991 when we opened our doors as an antique store. The White Wolf Café is named for Casper the white german sheppard that was a faithful companion in the antique store days. Over the years, we blossomed and transformed into an eclectic restaurant known for our unique decor, creative menu items, and a warm staff.” – White Wolf Cafe website
known for really delicious “deli-type” items, we’ve been frequenting White Wolf for over 15 years now. It’s usually always busy (particularly on the weekends) which should say something, right? Open for breakfast, brunch, lunch AND dinner, the menu boasts dishes like
On this particular visit for a late lunch on a blustery Saturday afternoon, our dining companion and we opted for a hamburger and flatbread, respectively.
With the Build Your Own Burger, you have the option for 8 oz brisket & short rib, lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese choice. The meat was cooked perfectly (medium rare, just like we prefer it), and juicy with lots of flavor. Of course we had to add bacon to give our burger that extra little kick. The dish also comes with fries, which are seasoned to elevate them above your average fries. Would definitely order this item again in the future.
As mentioned earlier, our lunch mate went with the Margherita Flatbread which can be found under…where? Well the “Flatbreads” section of the menu, of course!
As you can see the flatbread is uber…well, flat, topped with lettuce, white cheese, and tomatoes. Now we’re not typically fans of any margherita-style pizza (it’s the chunky tomatoes) but we did give this a try have to say the taste was quite nice. Plus with this being a flatbread it wasn’t overwhelming or heavy. White Wolf’s Margherita Flatbread is made up of mozzarella, roma tomato, basil & garlic oil. Nothing groundbreaking or inventive, but still a solid choice just the same.
In addition to these we’ve also had The Wolf Club (one of our all-time favorites; smoked turkey, bacon, mayo, cheese choice, bread choice), the White Wolf Chicken Sandwich (marinated chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese choice), the Classic Caesar salad w/chicken added, and the Cobb Salad (bacon, turkey, tomato, avocado, bleu cheese crumbles, ranch). All definitely solid choices…particularly if you’re looking for something on the lighter side.
One thing we’ve never taken the opportunity to try at White Wolf are their amazing-looking desserts. There’re only a few on the menu but they all look delectable an we must make it a point to try at least one of a future visit. Very eager to give their Peanut Butter Brownie Ice Cream Pie a try, along with the Sisi’s Sweets Strawberry Cheesecake (and we don’t normally like cheesecake OR strawberries…but it just looks so dang pretty!).
