Metro Diner in Altamonte Springs

We recently decided to do a thing and start eating super healthy. πŸ’₯ SIKE! πŸ’₯ We actually checked out Metro Diner in Altamonte Springs with a couple of folks instead (there are Metro Diner locations peppered all throughout the country). Although to be fair, they do have some healthy options – and we even went with a few…. π˜‰π˜Άπ˜΅ 𝘯𝘰𝘡 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘡𝘩π˜ͺ𝘯𝘨! Besides – who doesn’t love a charming little diner and all of its delicious offerings? 🍽

To start off, as long as we’ve been in the Central Florida area we’ve never heard of Metro Diner, which is obviously a chain. So we were quite pleased when one of our dinner mates suggested it; we’re always excited to check out new places.

The Altamonte location is situated just north of Semoran Boulevard/436 in a fairly congested area (the parking lot is a bit tricky, be forewarned). Once you tackle the lot and find a place to park, you’ll head inside and find a large dining area immediately ahead, and hugged by a traditional diner bar on the left and a tiny additional dining area on the right.

Now on to the main dish: The Food! Now like we insinuated earlier, you’re not going to find much healthy food on the menu at Metro Diner. At least that was our initial assumption. But in looking over all the options we were immediately proven wrong. Not that we’ve been on some mission for finding the healthiest places to eat in the Central Florida area. Truth be told we’d already eaten a large meal prior to meeting up with our friends; plus, we try to make smarter eating decisions from time-to-time. Like this one – we opted for a burger without a bun (although that’s what we asked for; the bun still arrived on our plate), and broccoli over french fries. Surprisingly, the broccoli was pretty tasty and quite fresh…bright green!

We can honestly say there wasn’t anything groundbreaking about these Onion Rings, but they were prepared perfectly, just crunchy enough on the inside and hot on the inside. They are thick cut, panko-breaded and served with ranch. smacks lips

And while all of this was going on, while we were enjoying our bun-less burger and bright green broccoli–we were not-so-secretly taking note of what was going on with our dining companions:

The Bissell Breakfast
Two eggs any style, bacon, toast, hashbrowns or grits, and a short stack of pancakes. The cakes looked light and fluffy and quite delectable.

Lemon Dill Salmon
You wouldn’t necessarily think of a diner as the type of establishment to order fish, but apparently it’s quite popular among patrons because it’s listed on the “Dinner Favorites” section of the menu. The dish is comprised of seared salmon, seasoned with lemon and dill. Served with creamy mashed potatoes and steamed green beans.

Avocado Toast
If you’re interested in a crap-ton of avocado for your meal then this is most certainly a fantastic choice. We were actually a little shocked at just how much avocado tops only two pieces of eight-grain toast.

And of course you know we had to pull in some pics from Metro Diner’s Instagram to show a little more “pretty” and variety:
