If you’ve been in the Central Florida area for any amount of time you’re likely familiar with Give Kids The World (GKTW). They are an amazing organization–an institution, of sorts– providing services to children with life-threatening illnesses, looking for unforgettable vacation memories (they partner with all of the local theme parks here in Orlando as well as other entertainment venues).
“Give Kids The World Village is an 84-acre, nonprofit resort in Central Florida that provides weeklong, cost-free vacations to children with critical illnesses and their families.
The Village and its community partners provide children and their families accommodations in fully-furnished villas, transportation, tickets to theme parks, meals, daily entertainment and much more.” – Give Kids The World website
As we’ve already talked about several times in the past few weeks, so many of our local businesses are being affected by the Coronavirus outbreak; many are experiencing delayed re-openings and even permanent closures. It appears GKTW is no exception. Along with many other local information sources (see below), we were recently informed GKTW will be closed indefinitely given the current health climate. Aside from that, leadership at Give Kids has released details on a major lay-off which includes most of the staff. GKTW will retain a minimal staff in order to remain operational for the time being. More lost jobs here in Central Florida….

This really is a sad bit of news. We heart GKTW and have volunteered there a couple of times over the years. Here’s hoping for a quick recovery so we’ll receive news sometime in the near future about a re-opening.
