We’ve been fans of Tamale Co. for years and years and years. In fact, we’ll let you in on a little secret: We used to work out at Lake Eola a few years ago, and Tamale Co. would bring one of their food trucks to the area one Wednesday night every month. We’d specifically make sure to make it to our boot camp class that night–with our wallet, of course–so we could grab some tamales immediately after. Hey – everyone has their own workout goals, right? We also may have stalked their Twitter in the past to find out exactly where their trucks would be making appearances. There – guess it’s not really a secret anymore….
If you’re not familiar with Tamale Co. at all, well…a) you’re probably feeling like you’re missing out on something in life but you’re not quite sure what it is (and you are) and b) you must get acquainted with them pronto.
As you can tell from our ranting early on, Tamale Co. has had a presence in the Central Florida area for some time through the food truck scene. They’d pop up at various farmers’ markets and events around the area throughout the year.
“Tamale Co. Is original and traditional, unlike any other. We are passionate about the idea of TAMALE, a mexican dish that can be tracked back to the pre-hispanic times. Made of masa filled with anything from meats to fruits and vegetables, wrapped in cornhusks and combined with delicious mexican sauces. Making it a very traditional way to create a unique assemblage of different flavors. Tamale Co. offers the best Gourmet Mexican tamales, each hand-crafted to an artista perfection and prepared with the freshest ingredients Florida’s local farmers have to offer. Our rish passion for the art of quality and authentic cuisine is sure to unwarp the original taste.” – Tamale Co.
The tamales offered by Tamale Co. are not only so incredibly delicious, they’re also incredibly filling (i. e., they are huge!). All you have to do is check out the pic above or follow Tamale Co.’s Instagram. Our fave is the chorizo tamale, jam-packed full of marinated flavor (be aware – it has a kick!). It’s stuffed with Chihuahua cheese, chipotle cream sauce, sour cream, queso fresco, cilantro con tamale, 1 pork tamale, green tomatillo sauce, Cotija cheese, sour cream and cilantro. Whew – we’re dreaming of one right now! Oh – and it’s served with yummy rice and beans.
One of the things we love most about Tamale Co. is they sell many of their items frozen so customers can take them home and enjoy them there. Perfect lunch or dinner idea during this quarantine time we’re experiencing at the moment. Frozen tamales are prepacked in sets of two and include heating instructions so it’s really pretty simple. You can get two (2) tamales for $6, six (6) tamales for $15, and twelve tamales for $30. They also offer their delicious bottles of salsa for $7.99 each. Of course, we recommend always checking directly with the restaurant in the event of pricing changes.
Tamale Co. expanded into the ever-growing Hourglass District a couple of years ago, and now offer dine-in and take-out from this adorable little space neighboring Foxtail Coffee and Freehand Goods. And, by the way, in addition to their delicious food they have some pretty darn cute merch.
One last thing. As we’re all continuing to figure out how we can support our favorite local business and keep them afloat during this uncertain time, perhaps you’ll want to consider grabbing a few gift cards from Tamale Co. and keeping them for a later time or passing them on as gifts to family and friends. We sure would hate to see places like this have to close their doors.
