A couple of weeks ago we’d shared some information around Jillycakes relocating from her Winter Park store location to the new Wheelhouse Market over at ICON Park. Earlier this week we got a first-hand look at where she’ll be setting up house as well as a tasting of some of the new vendors she’ll be joining at the new Wheelhouse Market (the first food hall on International Drive).
Located directly below The Wheel, The Wheelhouse Market offers authentically prepared and international inspired foods like andouille sausage, giant Bavarian pretzels, healthy acai bowls and freshly prepared cupcakes. Choose from 1905 Pizza & Pasta, Latin 21 Street Food, Sausage Shack and Shack Sweets.
The Market is located just at the base of The Wheel, as mentioned directly above. It’s incredibly easy to access and incredibly easy to get to; there’s free parking in the garage immediately next door. Once you’ve arrived, parked, and made your way over to where you can purchase tickets to experience The Wheel, the Market is just off to the righthand side where guests will find:
- Shack Sweets. Desserts. New in November, Food Network “Cupcake Wars” winner, Jillian Hopke, relocated her Jillycakes operation to Shack Sweets and partnering with Restaurant Tour Hospitality Group. She will bake fresh cupcakes daily and offer dessert classes to the public. In addition to Jillycakes, the orange cake at Shack Sweets is a “can’t miss” item that highlights those famous citrus flavors of Florida.
- Sausage Shack. The second location for this Winter Park staple features sausages handpicked from the finest selections around the world. There are 12 different homemade mustards to try, along with the freshly baked, giant Bavarian pretzels. Sausage Shack’s mouth-watering options include a bacon mac ‘n cheese sausage, along with bangers and mash.
- Latin 21 Street Food. Latin dishes including an authentic Cuban sandwich with roasted pork and sautéed ham and a tostones plate: fried green plantains topped with tender meat, coleslaw and cheese.
- 1905 Pizza & Pasta. Italian dishes including specialty pizzas and gluten-free dough options. Guests can craft their own pizzas and relax, while the food is prepared fresh for them. Pastas include a choice of sauces and toppings made to guests’ tastes.
One of the things that cannot be stressed enough about this new venture in what’s pretty much known as one of the most touristy of touristy things in a touristy town, is these food vendors are all local to Central Florida. This is extremely important not only in communicating to the public but also to the management team at ICON Park.
Oh, as if all this wasn’t tasty enough we got the opportunity to experience The Wheel at night and take in some delicious views of The City Beautiful.
Pretty spectacular, right? If you haven’t had an opportunity to “ride” The Wheel yet we highly, highly recommend it. It would certainly be the perfect complement to a meal at one of these new food offerings.
