Izziban Sushi & BBQ on Colonial Drive

An unforgettable all-you-can-eat k-bbq & sushi experience.

img_1019Anytime a food place touts itself has having an unforgettable experience I’m totally game to give it a shot. And I drive by this Izziban Sushi & BBQ place on Colonial Drive quite frequently and have wanted to try it out for quite some time. And I had the opportunity to do so recently so I’m glad I did…and can share.

Now I definitely do have quite a few things to mention about the dining experience at Izziban Sushi & BBQ. It’s a bit of a stretch to use the word unforgettable–either in a positive or negative fashion–but I would definitely return for another meal.

Let me first say the menu at this place is ridiculously extensive:

A bit overwhelming at first glance, wouldn’t you agree? But that’s why I’m here. For you.

Let’s back it up just a bit before even entering the space. The building is fairly nondescript. In fact, it’s probably likely you’ve driven by it at some point and not even noticed it’s there; the facility has been several places over the years. It’s a rather large establishment sitting on a small lake, and honestly reminds me of something you might find in Panama City or another “vacation” beach town. That said, once you pull into the parking lot and find a space, you enter through a relatively unimpressive entrance.

Walking in you’re immediately greeted by a very, very large open space and a host/hostess stand. Put your name in for a wait (at least we did on this visit) and either grab a seat at the bar or go to your table. Now it’s pretty obvious this place has been around for some time and seen some things. As mentioned earlier, the building itself has had several “lives” and it’s apparent one of those was a nightclub (just glance around the upper floor if you have a moment).

Once you’ve been seated at your table you have a few minutes to decide what type of dining experience you want to have. Now this is a hibachi style place so once you decide on the type of meat you’d like to eat it’s brought to your table raw and you could it yourself. I recommend the $21.00 all-you-can-eat option – it offers four different types of meat and everything else…. Seriously. Like, so much food.

We opted for the following during this visit:

  • Beef Brisket
  • Marinated Sirloin
  • Marinated Spicy Chicken
  • Wine Pork Belly

Of all of the stuff featured above I’d have to say my favorite was the pork belly. It was a tad fatty but – I kinda like that. Of course remember you can season and cook your meat to your specific likings.

As mentioned earlier before in addition to the unlimited meats offered as part of the deal, there’s an app/salad bar (not the most appealing ever, to be honest, but there are a few decent dishes) and sides like edamame, gyoza, sushi and more.
