Have you ever Zipcar-d in Orlando? I’ve been driving past this one location on the corner of Orange Avenue and Amelia Street in downtown quite a bit lately, and have been wondering what the usage rate is – if at all.
Zipcar is “is the world’s leading car-sharing network.”
We give you on-demand access to drive cars by the hour or the day in cities, airports, and campuses around the globe. – Zipcar.com
Basically how it works is if you need a car you can create a profile online, upon which you’ll shortly receive a “zipcard” in the mail. Then, you can go online to reserve a car for the date and time needed, and apparently the vehicle can then be accessed with the zipcard. Everything (gas, insurance, etc.) is included. The vehicle must simply be returned to the same location where it was picked up.
Here’s a little more info:
- Benefits: If you don’t have a car and don’t really want to make use of any of our bike sharing options, this would be quite convenient. Also, if you have any family or friends visiting from out-of-town and they don’t necessarily need to rent a car for the entire time, seems like this would be a good option.
- Cost: Apparently there are a few different plans: Annually, monthly, and daily. On top of that there are options for individuals, companies/organizations, and universities.
As I mentioned earlier there is a location near the courthouse in downtown Orlando. This is several in the Central Florida area. You can visit Zipcar.com for detailed info on each.
