Huey Magoo’s

img_7367Huey Magoo’s has been around for some time. About 14 years, actually, founded in 2004. This kid here (yes, that’s me – don’t question it) is just discovering it, though. While doing some shopping over in the Millenia area not too long ago my eyes landed on their store.

So what sets Huey Magoo’s (now known as “Huey’s” from here on out) apart from all of the other “chicken tender” restaurants in the marketplace…some of which we’ve talked about here? Well, aside from their being no cheeky bovine in the vacinity, Huey’s tries to leverage the ‘steroid, hormone free’ angle that would potentially attract consumers that care about this sort of thing. I most certainly care, of course, about these types of initiatives but it wouldn’t be a huge influence on my decision to or not to eat here.

“Our premium chicken tenders are served hand-breaded and made to order or grilled which we marinate for 24 hours. Either version can be sauced for maximum flavor in one of our four amazing sauces. Plus, our tenders are steroid and hormone free. We use honest ingredients and transform them into real food that is fresh and made just for you.”

If you’re craving some quick chicken on-the-go this place is one of the finer choices.

Tenders For One: Five Pieces

The menu does offer sandwiches, wraps, and salads for those who like variety and healthier choices, but I obviously went with the pure intent of indulging on their chicken tenders. I opted for the “Tenders For One” five piece meal, breaded. I mean, grilled or sauced is also offered, but my thing is if you’re gonna do it you might as well go for it all the way, right? The meals are also served with crinkle-cut fries and Texas toast (both featured above) and a signature Magoo’s Dip. PRO TIP: If you’re like me and don’t like slaw, simply request a double order of french fries.

While I’ve been singing the praises of this place and their food, I will say there’s nothing terribly groundbreaking or innovative about what they offer. I can pretty assuredly say I’ll be back for another round as they’re a good option for the type of food they’re offering. They’re also quite convenient for those out-and-about in the Millenia area for shopping or errands.

Aside from the food I will say one of the things I really like about Huey Magoo’s is their branding. It’s really fun, and completely engaging. There’s definitely a lot to keep patrons occupied while they wait for their orders (#Instagram, anyone?).

Not the least bit familiar, being from Ontario, Canada, but uh, I’d like to be! Like, right now, sitting in front of me, being eaten. 😉

I wasn’t either until they came into the Central Florida area. Do you ever make it down to Orlando? If you do, you’ll have to be certain to check it out. Also, do you all have anything similar in Canada?

What are your thoughts?
