Word on the street is Orange Avenue in downtown Orlando might be reworked to change from a one-way to a two-way street. Ok, it’s nothing totally concrete as of yet, I just wanted to say “word on the street.” However, this is definitely something being talked about, specifically in the North Quarter part of town, near where downtown bleeds into Ivanhoe Village/Ivanhood.
Honestly, I originally learned about this from my building’s HOA newsletter (I reside in this part of town). Upon hearing this I started a little bit of research because I just couldn’t imagine how it would be implemented. Two primary resources I located confirming this conversation are:
Orange Avenue has been a one-way street for as long as I can recall, and I’ve been in the area for 20 years. So what would such a significant change mean? Well, changing the road and its current composite would affect pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers on the street, obviously. It could also bring new awareness and revenue to businesses in the area.
This still has yet to be approved. That’s pending approval of Phase II of this study. And no word that I could track down of when that is set to take place.
What do you think? Would you be down with a two-way Orange Avenue?
