Dear Orlando Leaders: Is Cady Way Safe?

A little more than a year ago, I blogged about a few of the trails I like in Central Florida. Since today starts the first week of Daylight Saving Time, I’m getting back into my after-work riding routine.

After the recent reminders in the news about Nicole Ganguzza‘s death, an otherwise normal ride today left me wondering if my ride along Cady Way Trail was really safe.

The areas I find slightly sketchy are between miles 1 1/4 and 1 1/2, which are lined with woods on either side, and just past the bridge that crosses over Semoran Blvd. between miles 4 1/2 and 5 1/2.

So, have you spent any time on the Cady Way Trail? What are your thoughts? And, what can our county/city leaders do to assure us that they’re keeping these areas safe?

  1. Rick, Thanks for your comment. I’ve been riding the trail for a couple years, as well. I think I’m just overly cautious now after thinking how easy it seems to have been for someone to be attacked while out taking an innocent jog on Little Econ. Two different trails in two different parts of town, but still some similar circumstances, I guess. Anyway, thanks for the feedback!

  2. I live on the Cady Way Trail (my backyard opens directly onto the trail). It is quite safe, and we often take walks late at night on it. I am sure, like any public place, there is an element of risk, but in the years we’ve been walking on it we’ve yet to encounter anyone suspicious or threatening on the trail.
